MUSIC: The Tom Dempsey/Tim Ferguson Quartet @ the Athens Cultural Center, Athens. The foursome – which features saxman Joel Frahm and drummer Eliot Zigmund, in addition to guitarist Dempsey and bassist Ferguson – celebrates the release of their new CD, “Beautiful Friendship” on the Catskill-based Planet Arts label. Pre-concert talk with the performers at 7pm; concert at 8pm. $10.

THEATER: “Cowgirls” @ Time + Space Limited, Hudson. A Mussmann/Bruce Production featuring Claudia Bruce, Ryder Cooley and John Musall in an evening of songs, story-telling, overhead projections, rolling scenery and silhouette imagery as the cowgirls take charge and make their home, home on the range. 7:30pm. $10; students $5.

MUSIC: Bonnie Raitt @ the Palace Theatre, Albany. After a lengthy hiatus, the nine-time Grammy Award-winner and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer returns in support of her new album, “Slipstream.” With Marc Cohn. 8pm. $52 & $62.

FESTIVAL/MUSIC: Mountain Jam @ Hunter Mountain, Hunter. It’s Day Three of Warren Haynes’ annual jam-a-licious fest featuring Gov’t Mule, the Levon Helm Band, Ben Folds Five, the Word, Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds, Charles Bradley, American Babies and lots more on four stages. The music starts at 11am.

MUSIC: Ribbin’ & Blues BBQ Bash @ Pauly’s Hotel, Albany. Music by Scotty Mac & the Rockin’ Bonnevilles, Joe Lowry & the Second Mile Blues Band, Folding Sky, Charlie Smith and “Blue Hand” Luke McNamee. With barbecue from the Capital Q Smokehouse. 12noon. FREE.

MUSIC: Man Man @ Valentine’s Music Hall, Albany. The Philadelphia-based experimental rock outfit roars into Nippertown, sponsored by WCDB-FM. With Raleigh Moncrief. 8pm. $15.

FESTIVAL: Kids Arts Festival @ City Hall, Schenectady. The ElectriCity Arts and Entertainment District presents the 18th annual fest with two stages of entertainment featuring the Drum Line of Schenectady High School, the Puppet People, Juggling Josh Edelman, Mike Purcell, steel drum trio Steel Pretty and more. Rain or shine. 12noon-4pm.

MUSIC/FUNDRAISER: Jerry Sabatini & Sonic Explorers @ the Van Dyck, Schenectady. Trumpeter and Schenectady native Sabatini leads his Boston-based band through selections from their four self-released CDs on Nada Brahma Records, as well as adaptations of music by Sun Ra, Don Cherry, Astor Piazzolla, Rufus Wainwright, John Zorn and traditional folk music from Bulgaria, Greece, India and Ethiopia. Partial proceeds will benefit the David Bournazian Scholarship Fund for Mohonasen High School. 8pm. $18; students & seniors $12.
