At 7pm on Monday (June 4), the Spectrum 8 Theatres in Albany will host a special advance screening of “Music from the Big House,”, a documentary by award-winning director Bruce McDonald about the power of the blues to provide hope and redemption to the hopeless. Rita Chiarelli, Canada’s Queen of the Blues, takes a pilgrimage to the birthplace of the blues, Louisiana State Maximum Security Penitentiary, aka Angola Prison – what used to be the bloodiest prison in America. Her journey turns into a historic jailhouse performance – playing with inmates serving life sentences.
Following the screening, Rita Chiarelli will offer a short musical performance, as well as a Q&A session with the audience. Tix for this special one-night-only event are $13.
BUT WAIT… Have we got a deal for you! We’re giving away a pair of FREE TIX to the event to a lucky Nippertown reader! To enter the contest, just post a comment below. Please leave your email address, too. We won’t publish it, but we’ll use it to contact you if you win. The winner will be selected at random and notified on Monday. Enter today! Good luck!
UPDATE: Congratulations to the winner, who has been notified by email. And thanks to the Spectrum 8 Theatres for the giveaway.
