The recently re-named Upstate Concert Hall (formerly Northern Lights) in Clifton Park is living up to its new name with some newly announced A-list shows on the horizon, including hip-hop vet DMX at 8pm on Friday June 8 ($25 in advance; $28 at the door); and Yeasayer at 8pm on Tuesday, August 14 ($18 in advance; $20 at the door; on sale at 10am on Friday, June 1).
The next one2one jazz concert sponsored by Planet Arts will take place at 8pm on Saturday (June 2) at the Athens Cultural Center in Athens, where the Tom Dempsey/Tim Ferguson Quartet celebrates the release of their new CD, “Beautiful Friendship” on the Catskill-based Planet Arts label. In addition to guitarist Dempsey and bassist Ferguson, the band features saxophonist Joel Frahm and drummer Eliot Zigmund. There will also be a free pre-concert talk with the performers at 7pm. Tix are $10.

The Rustic Overtones invade Bootlegger’s on Broadway in Troy at 8pm on Saturday (June 2). Tix are $12 in advance; $15 at the door.
Celtic favorites the Wolfe Tones are headed into the Hibernian Hall in Albany at 8pm on Friday, June 29, to play a benefit concert for Albany’s Irish American Heritage Museum. Tix are $30.

OPENERS: Opening acts have been announced for a pair of upcoming June concerts at The Egg in Albany. The Ghost Wolves will open for Alejandro Escovedo & the Sensitive Boys at 8pm on Friday, June 15, while A Fragile Tomorrow has snagged the opening slot for Matthew Sweet at 8pm on Friday, June 22.
