Yes, it must officially be summertime because the Saratoga Performing Arts Center is hosting its first event of the 2012 season on Sunday morning.
Co-sponsored by SPAC and WEQX-FM, the annual family-friendly “Rock & Run” 5K Race kicks off the SPAC summer season at 10:30am on Sunday. Registration will be held from 8:30-10am. The cost is $32. There will also be a 1K Kid’s Run at 10am (Registration is from 8-9:30am.; $7 per person). Proceeds from the event help underwrite SPAC’s Vivienne Anderson Program, which provides underserved children with the opportunity to attend classical performances.
OK, that’s the “run” part of the equation. The “rock” takes place all along the certified 5K course through the Spa State Park with live musical performances by some of Nippertown’s top bands and musicians, including Headband Jack, Black Mountain Symphony, the Jenson Rhodes Band, the City Never Sleeps, Garland Nelson, Lost Cantina, Tamer Lane, Dirt Cheap, the Kemp Avenue Band, Betsy & the Bygones, John Donvito and Tracy Corey.
And if you want more rockin’, you’re in luck. Following the conclusion of the races, SPAC will host a community post-race party featuring a performance by New York City-based alt-rockers My Pet Dragon. Food will be available, and the party will also feature fitness demonstrations and plenty of children’s activities. Admission to the party is FREE – even if you don’t register to run. The post-race party is scheduled to run from 10:45am-1pm.
