MUSIC: Dougie MacLean @ the Eighth Step at Proctors, Schenectady. The sublime Scottish singer-songwriter-composer-storyteller-fiddler makes a Nippertown concert appearance on a rare U.S. tour. 7:30pm. $28 & $32.

MUSIC: Keith Pray’s Big Soul Ensemble @ the Van Dyck, Schenectady. Contemporary jazz big band. 8pm. FREE.

MUSIC: Daytrader @ College of St. Rose’s Jack’s Place, Albany. With Albany’s own Aficionado, Casting Curses, Pentimento and Drug Church. Doors open at 7pm. $3.

TALK: Zoë Samels’s “Pinning Down History: Insects, America and the Art of John Hampson” @ the Clark Art Institute, Williamstown. The art conservationist discusses her work restoring a John Hampson entomological collage from the Fairbanks Museum & Planetarium in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. Followed by a reception. 5:30pm. FREE.

MUSIC: Time for Three & the Skidmore Orchestra @ Skidmore College’s Zankel Music Center, Saratoga Springs. The dynamic jazz/country/bluegrass/classical string trio joins the Skidmore Orchestra in concert for Chris Brubeck’s “Travels in Time for Three” and George Gershwin’s “Cuban Overture.” 8pm. $7; seniors $5.

MUSIC: David Arner’s “The Invocation of Hermes Twice Revealed” @ EMPAC at RPI, Troy. Cryptic improvisational work for solo piano. 8pm. FREE.

THEATER: “Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom” @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. After a three year hiatus, Channel Z Productions’ Young Adult Ensemble returns to the Caffe’s Black Box Theater with the regional premiere of Jennifer Haley’s chilling, dark comedy. 7pm. $10; students & seniors $7.

MUSIC: Human Nature @ Proctors, Schenectady. Australian quartet celebrates the soul music of Motown. UPDATE: This show has been cancelled.
