MUSIC: Goodnight, Texas @ Bat Shea’s, Troy. The transcontinental Appalachian folk-garage band is led by San Francisco’s Avi Vinocur (formerly of the Stone Foxes) and North Carolina’s Patrick Dyer Wolf. With Maurizio and Casey J Chapman opening the show. 8pm.

READING/MUSIC: “Inside Out: Poems and Music from Prison” @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. Co-hosted by Gordon Boyd and poet Cara Benson, the fundraiser for the Mt. McGregor Organ and Arts Fund features readings from Mel Williams and Seán Dalpiaz, performances of poems and music created inside, and a panel discussion on role of the arts in rehabilitation. 7pm. Suggested donation $15.

FILM: “The Skinny” @ Proctors, Schenectady. It’s opening night of the second annual QFest, a festival of LGBTQ films. In addition to the movie, the evening will feature a performance by the Capital Pride Singers and a Q&A with writer-director Patrik-Ian Polk. 7:30pm. $8.

TALK: Leslie Vosshall’s “Bitten” @ EMPAC at RPI, Troy. Rockefeller University neuroscientist Vosshall gives an in-depth presentation on the origins and complexities of smell and its impact on our behavior. 6pm. FREE.

READING: Martha Rozett @ UAlbany Science Library’s Standish Room, Albany. The UAlbany English professor reads from her family memoir, “When People Wrote Letters: A Family Chronicle.” 4:15pm. FREE.
