Festival Fever: The Wombats Headline MOVE Music Festival, 4/21/12

Back in February, when we first announced the MOVE Music Festival – a new one-day rock fest at various locations throughout downtown Albany – only a few of the bands and none of the venues had been announced. Since the fest is coming up on Saturday, April 21, we thought it was time for an update.

First, the venues. Nine of the ten performance venues downtown on Pearl Street or Broadway, with the lone exception being Justin’s up on Lark Street. Here they are:

The Bayou Cafe
Blue 82
Franklin’s Tower
Jillian’s
Justin’s on Lark
Kelsey’s at Hotel Albany
Legends on Pearl
McGeary’s Pub
R Bar
Red Square

And the bands?

Well, there are nearly 100 bands slated to perform throughout the day and night – from local bands to regional bands and even an international entry – British rockers the Wombats, who are not only headlining the fest, but also kicking off their US tour at 10pm at Jillian’s.

In other words, there are bands from A to Z – the Aviation Orange to Zing Experience. There are lots of familiar Nippertown music scene regulars – the Charlie Watts Riots, Olivia Quillio, Mirk, Eastbound Jesus, Erin Harkes, to name just a few – and lots of bands that I’ve never heard of – the Happy Problem, Wilbur by the Sea, Hello Seattle, Hug the Dog – which should make for an interesting and somewhat unpredictable day of music – just the way we like it.

Go here for the latest schedule of who’s playing where and when.

The music starts at 1pm at most of the venues, and it looks like it will keep going until about 1:30am, when the Paranoid Social Club wraps up the day at Red Square.

In addition to the all-day music showcases, MOVE will also be holding a merchandise trade show and interactive round table sessions with industry professionals at the Hotel Albany. The keynote speaker is Nadine Gelineau, founder and president of The Musebox.

Advance tickets are available here for $12, which gets you into all 10 venues all day long, as well as the trade show and round table sessions. And that’s a pretty good deal, no matter how you cut it.
