The newly formed Albany Music Coalition celebrates with its launch event at Valentine’s Music Hall in Albany at 8pm on Friday. Co-founded by Katie Hammon (director of operations at the Palace Theatre and musician with Bear Grass and Slender Shoulders) and Harith Saam (founder and president of The Rev Records), AMC aims to “share ideas, information, and resources to benefit the Albany music community.”

The organisation’s inaugural event at Valentine’s will feature performances by:
Matthew Carefully
Michael Eck
Tom McWatters & the Philo Beddoe Band

Post continues below...

Admission to the benefit performance is $7 and proceeds will be used to support the Coalition’s work as it moves through the process of establishing itself as a non-profit organization. Exit 97.7 WEXT-FM is co-sponsoring the event.

Come on down, support local music and find out how to get involved with the Albany Music Coalition…

Totally behind what this group is doing, but I question the choice of the name Albany Music Coalition. Other than being a pretty uninspired name, it will undoubted be shortened to AMC. Between Albany Medical College and WAMC radio, adding another AMC to the mix seems unwise.

And let’s not forget one of my fave bands, American Music Club…
