FILM/MUSIC: The Alloy Orchestra’s Short Film Favorites with New Music @ MASS MoCA , North Adams. Terry Donahue, Roger Miller and Ken Winokur compose, improvise and perform music to accompany silent films “Red Spectre,” “Artheme Swallows his Clarinet,” “Dream of a Rarebit Fiend: The Pet” and “One Week.” 12:30pm. $5.

MUSIC/FUNDRAISER: Benefit for the Tools For Timkatec Program in Haiti @ Club Helsinki, Hudson. Tommy Stinson (the Replacements, Guns N’ Roses) heads up the benefit concert. With Elvis Perkins, Trapper Schoepp, more. 8pm. $20.

MUSIC: Of Monsters and Men @ Jillian’s, Albany. The six-piece Icelandic folk-popsters roll into town in support of their new album, “My Head Is Like an Animal.” With Lay Low. 8pm. $15. UPDATE: This concert is now officially sold out.

MUSIC: Music@Noon with the Chiara String Quartet @ the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, Troy. Featuring Rebecca Fischer and Julie Hye-Yung Yoon (violins), Jonah Sirota (viola) and Gregory Beaver (cello). 12noon. FREE.

MUSIC: Rensselaer Contemporary Music Ensemble @ EMPAC at RPI, Troy. “Naturesongs,” featuring nature-inspired works by such composers as Adams, Schafer, Tenney and Stravinsky. 4pm. FREE.

THEATER: “FDR” @ the Wood Theater, Glens Falls. A return engagement starring Ed Asner’s in the one-man play, which sold-out its 2010 appearance. 7:30pm. $85.50.

MUSIC: Rebecca Martin @ BSP Lounge, Kingston. The sublime jazz singer teams up with her husband-bassist Larry Grenadier for a unique blend of folk ballads and jazz standards. All proceeds will benefit Queen’s Galley, the Kingston-based soup kitchen and health awareness organization. With Shana Falana, Jenna Shaffer and Andrea Tomasi. 8pm. $10.

MUSIC: Pegi Young & the Survivors @ the Iron Horse Music Hall, Northampton. Pegi Young was singing, writing songs and playing guitar long before she married rock icon Neil Young in 1978. Now she’s doing it again, backed by a band led by keyboardist-Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Spooner Oldham. With Rocky Roberts & Friends. 7pm. $15.

MUSIC/FOOD: “New Orleans Jubilee” @ the Crossgates Restaurant and Banquet House, Albany. Skip Parsons’ Riverboat Dixieland Jazz Band play a Mardi Gras-style bash featuring Crescent City cuisine, music and more, complete with beads, doubloons, dancing, jazz and prizes. 12noon-3pm. $39, including buffet style food, music and all favors.

READING/FILM: Douglas Crimp @ Skidmore College’s Tang Museum, Saratoga Springs. A screening of Andy Warhol’s silent film “Blow Job,” followed by Douglas Crimp reading from his new book, “Our Kind of Movie: The Films of Andy Warhol.” 8pm. FREE.

MUSIC: We Came as Romans @ Northern Lights, Clifton Park. In support of their new album, “Understanding What We’ve Grown to Be.” With Emmure, Blessthefall, Woe is Me and the Color Morale. 7pm. $21.

READING: Ghassan Zaqtan @ UAlbany Science Library’s Standish Room, Albany. Palestinian poet, novelist, journalist, screenwriter and playwright reads from his new collection — the first to appear in English — “Like a Straw Bird It Follows Me,” Award-winning Palestinian-American poet and translator Fady Joudah will read. UPDATE: Palestinian poet Ghassan Zaqtan will be unable to attend the events as scheduled due to delays in processing his visa (a matter that has attracted the attention and protest of American PEN and the ACLU). Videos of Ghassan Zaqtan reading his poetry in Arabic will be shown, with commentary by Joudah, who has translated Zaqtan into English. 8pm. FREE. Also a seminar at UAlbany Science Library’s Standish Room at 4:15pm. FREE. UPDATE: Both readers have cancelled their appearances tonight. The New York State Writers Institute hopes to re-schedule for the fall.
