MUSIC: Ensemble Congeros @ the Arts Center of the Capital Region, Troy. Led by Eddie Ade Knowles, the Troy-based Afro-Cuban percussion group performs in concert to celebrate the release of their debut DVD, “Chasing the Rhythms.” 8pm. $15.

MUSIC/FESTIVAL: Roots Music Festival @ The Linda, Albany. Host band the Red Haired Strangers will be joined by the versatile Jim Gaudet & the Railroad Boys, the genre-bending Annie & the Hedonists, the delta style blues of Street Corner Holler and strolling troubadour Michael Eck. 8pm. $15.

FILM: “The Miners’ Hymns” @ Time + Space Limited, Hudson. The entirely wordless film features an original score by Icelandic composer Johann Johannsson and rare archival footage selected and edited by American filmmaker Bill Morrison to tell the tale of an ill-fated mining community in Northeast England. 4pm. $7; students $5.

MUSIC/ART: Michael Eck @ Desolation Road Studios, Altamont. The maximum solo acoustic singer-songwriter plays an unamplified set in conjunction with the closing reception for his exhibition of of portraits of American folk, blues, jazz and country music icons. 3pm. FREE.

FILM: “Gerhard Richter Painting” @ Time + Space Limited, Hudson. Director Corinna Belz gives us a glimpse inside the studio and the creative process of one of the world’s greatest living painters. 5:30pm. $7; students $5.

MUSIC: The Talea Ensemble @ EMPAC at RPI, Troy. The Talea Ensemble performs the wild, wonderful works of composer Fausto Romitelli, who twisted the sound field of psychedelic rock to create his own artificial palette for composition. 8pm. $18; students / seniors $13.
