Cohoes Pianist Performs on “From the Top”

Allen Wong Yu ’14 Performs Mussorgsky on “From the Top” from Bowdoin College on Vimeo.

19-year-old pianist Allen Wong Yu of Cohoes will be performing on the hit National Public Radio show, “From the Top,” which spotlights America’s best young classical musicians. Hosted by acclaimed classical crossover pianist Christopher O’Riley, the program will be broadcast on WMHT-FM (89.1 and 88.7FM) at 5pm on Saturday (March 24). The episode was taped before a live audience last month at Studzinski Recital Hall on the campus of Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine.

On the show, Allen performs “The Great Gate of Kiev” from Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition.”

Allen is a sophomore at Bowdoin College, where he is studying piano performance and political science, in addition playing with several chamber ensembles and serving as vice president of the Bowdoin Student Government.

It’s not Allen’s first appearance on the national radio program, either. Four years ago at the age of 15, he performed on “From the Top” and was awarded the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist award.
