READING: John Sayles @ UAlbany’s Performing Arts Center Recital Hall, Albany. The Schenectady native and award-winning director of such films as “Matewan,” “Eight Men Out” and “Lone Star” reads from his latest novel, “A Moment in the Sun,” covering many of the events of 1987 and the dawn of U.S. interventionism in world affairs. 8pm. MUSIC: Rangda @ Valentine’s Music Hall, Albany. The trio of exciting, adventurous sonic explorers – Sir Richard Bishop, Chris Corsano and Ben Chasny – kicks off their rare northeast tour right here in Nippertown. With Century Plants. 7:30pm.

READING: Tom McCarthy @ Bard College Bertelsmann Campus Center’s Weis Cinema, Annandale-On-Hudson. The novelist and conceptual artist will read from his highly praised debut novel, “Remainder,” which was called “one of the great English novels of the last 10 years” by Zadie Smith in The New York Review of Books. 2:30pm.
