February has just started, but 2012 is already shaping up as a monster year for bluegrass music in Nippertown. So far this year we’ve already been blessed with concerts by Chris Thile & Michael Daves at Club Helsinki; a tribute to Bill Monroe and the Claire Lynch Band, both at Caffe Lena. Now it’s time to kick it up a notch with a rare concert this weekend by a bona fide super-star band of bluegrass musicians.
“Pickin’: The Bluegrass All-Star Jam” takes over the acclaimed stage at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall at 8pm on Friday (February 10). And it promises to be a major bluegrass showdown – as well as a hot-wired hoedown.
Here’s a quick rundown of the players who will be gracing the stage:
SAMMY SHELOR: Virginia Country Music Hall of Famer. Four-time International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Banjo Player of the Year award winner. Leader of the veteran bluegrass band, Lonesome River Band who are celebrating their 30th Anniversary.
