This Week’s Concert Update from SPAC

A number of interesting additions have popped up on the summer schedule at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs for the upcoming summer season:

Post continues below...

The Trio of OZ – led by drummer Omar Hakim and keyboardist Rachel Z with bassist Solomon Dorsey rounding out the threesome – are headed into SPAC for a return appearance at the Freihofer Saratoga Jazz Festival on Sunday, July 1. The trio made its SPAC debut at the fest two years ago.

Classical violin virtuoso Joshua Bell – who dazzled the crowd at the Palace Theatre with the Albany Symphony Orchestra last month (see our review and photos here) – will take the SPAC stage on Wednesday, August 15 with the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Rafael Fr├╝hbeck de Burgos.

The Miami String Quartet will be in the spotlight at SPAC’s Spa Little Theater on Sunday, July 29 and Tuesday, July 31, performing as part of the Saratoga Chamber Music Festival.

And Opera Saratoga will present performances of William Schuman’s quintessentially American opera “The Mighty Casey” at the Spa Little Theater on Saturdays, July 7 & 14, as well as Tuesday, July 10.

  1. Fred says:

SPAC has been irrelevant for years–over-priced, traffic-congested, uptight, and uninspired when it comes to booking concerts. It’s all that is wrong with corporate driven entertainment.

I’d urge all who love live music in the summer to attend the Green River Music Festival instead.
