Winter in the Berkshires is both both beautiful and challenging, with many of us slowly developing cabin fever in the cold, snowy, bleak months between New Year’s and the first day of Spring. The calendar of events is sparsely populated, especially in February when Mother Nature is in her foulest mood.
But in 2012 all that is going to change. Many of our most creative and tenacious artists are going to match wits with the great doyenne of blizzards and try to beguile her away from snow making and towards sun beaming. Their tools will be the arts, creating new plays, movies to distract and delight, plus music, poetry, comedy and variety acts, an who knows, maybe even a belly dancer or two though they would surely need a high metabolisms to keep them warm.
This clever event has been dubbed 10×10 On North, and is being billed as “the Berkshires’ first-ever winter contemporary arts festival”. Most of it will happen indoors, but who knows it could spill out onto the streets, weather permitting. Whatever final shape it takes – and you can help shape if if you want – it will certainly enliven downtown Pittsfield from February 16 through 26, 2012, with a dynamic mix of new art, dance, music, theatre, and more.
