Yes, most of the free concert series around Nippertown take place during those warm, sunny summer months, but, let’s face it, we need a shot of free music during the dark, cold winter, too.

Fortunately, the Schenectady County Public Library has come to the rescue with its Beat the Snow! concert series, which starts up on Sunday afternoon (January 8) and runs through the end of March.

The concerts take place at 2:30pm on Sundays, except where noted.

Here’s the line-up for the 2012 series:

Sunday (January 8): The Dino Cimino Trio (Jazz, ballads, Latin music)
January 15: Mark Tommasone (guitar and vocals)
January 22 (at 3pm): Silver and Gold Brass
February 5: Musicians of Ma’alwyck (featuring violinist Ann Marie Barker Schwartz and guitarist Sten Isachsen)
February 12: The Misty Jazz Project (Jazz, blues and more)
February 19: Patrick White (reading “Selected Short Stories”)
February 26: The Octavos Vocal Ensemble (led by director Curtis Funk)
March 4: The Schenectady Light Opera Company
March 11: The Adirondack Saxophone Quartet
March 18: The Etude Club
March 25: Fairview Avenue (Bluegrass)
