The Egg Adds Three New Concerts for the New Year

2012 continues to shape up as a good year on area concert stages, due in large part to The Egg’s rapidly growing concert calendar, which has just been expanded with the addition of three more new concerts:

Tuesday, February 21 @ 7:30pm, Swyer Theatre, $20; students $15
Since moving from Borneo to Brooklyn, singer-songwriter Zee Avi has captured hearts around the world with her breezy vocals, guitar and ukulele skills and original songs that blend pop, folk and jazz. She will perform music from her acclaimed self-titled debut and new recording “Ghostbird” with her band.

Saturday, March 17 @ 7:30pm, Swyer Theatre, $20; students $15
A child prodigy on bluegrass mandolin, banjo and guitar, Sarah Jarosz has become the fastest rising star in acoustic music, wrapping her supple vocals around original songs that transcend the boundaries between traditional and contemporary folk and bluegrass. Sarah will perform music from her Grammy-nominated recording “Song Up in Her Head” and new CD “Follow Me Down” – with her trio.

SHELBY LYNNE Friday, March 30 @ 8pm, Swyer Theatre, $28
Winner of the Grammy for Best New Artist in 2000, Shelby Lynne – known for her captivating vocals and honest songwriting – has delivered a string of acclaimed recordings, including a stirring tribute to Dusty Springfield and her gripping new album of originals “Revelation Road.”
