12/8/11: Today’s Tips: Thursday

FILM: “Wings of Desire” @ EMPAC at RPI, Troy. Wim Wenders’ award-winning existential film about angels who silently watch over all of humanity, comforting individuals as they confront the trials of daily life. Yeah, we’re excited about this one. It’s our all-time fave film. 7:30pm. $6.

FILM: “More to Live For” @ the Spectrum 8 Theatres, Albany. This documentary tells the tale of three lives – entertainment executive James Chippendale, Nigerian athlete Seun Adebiyi and jazz saxophone great Michael Brecker – shaken by cancer and dependent upon the one vital bone marrow match that could save them. The one-show-only screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Noah Hutton. 6:30pm. $10 with a portion of the proceeds to benefit Pancreatic Cancer Research.

DISCUSSION: Michael Oatman @ IS 183, Stockbridge. As part of the “Reuse of Spaces for Creative Purposes” seminar series, the Troy artist offers a lecture and discussion about his installation art, specifically his “All Utopias Fell” currently on exhibit at MASS MoCA. 6:30pm.
