PERFORMANCE/ART RECEPTION: Ed Atkeson’s Firlefanz Puppets: An Art Show About Puppets @ Albany Center Gallery, Albany. A reception in conjunction First Friday featuring excerpts from a puppet interpretation of Ionesco’s “Rhinoceros.” Reception from 5-9pm. Performance at 7pm. FREE. Related story.

MUSIC: Mirk @ the Washington Avenue Armory, Albany. The fab funkateers celebrate the release of their sophomore album, “Grind.” With Eric Sosa, Wordspit da Illest, the City Never Sleeps and King Dreams. 8pm. $15; the first 500 paid admissions also receive a free copy of the CD.

PERFORMANCE/MUSIC/FILM: Japanther’s “The Cake of The Three Towers” @ EMPAC at RPI, Troy. An analog story of grand scale utilizing performance, live music, and animation, inspired by Walt Whitman’s “The Mystic Saxophonist.” 8pm. $18. Also 8pm on Saturday, December 3.

@ the College of Saint Rose’s Massry Center, Albany. The Peanut Gallery Jazz Trio – Nippertown all-star threesome of pianist Dave Gleason, bassist Mike Lawrence and drummer Pete Sweeney – plays Vince Guaraldi’s classic music from the animated “Peanuts” holiday TV specials. 7 & 9pm. $20; students $10; children under six FREE. Followed by a milk ‘n’ cookies reception. UPDATE: The 7pm show is sold out.

MUSIC: Lost Radio Rounders @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. The vintage acoustic folk duo presents “Carl Sandburg’s American Songbag.” With Putnam Smith. 8pm. $15 in advance; $17 at the door.

MUSIC: The Sunny Side of the Street Band @ Hudson River Coffee House, Albany. Congrats go out to Anton Pasquill’s little coffeehouse that could as it celebrates its first anniversary. With the Lucky Jukebox Bridgade and Olivia Quillio. 8pm. FREE.

MUSIC: Cornmeal @ Jillian’s, Albany. The fast-rising, five-piece acoustic-electric group has been fusing together jam-band grooves with traditional bluegrass for more than a decade. With Hot Buttered Rum. 9:30pm.

MUSIC: Rocky Velvet @ Pauly’s Hotel, Albany. Guitarslinger Graham Tichy and hot-wired frontman Ian Carlton lead a one-night-only reunion of one of Nippertown’s fave rockabilly bands. 10pm. $8.

MUSIC: Blue Factory @ Valentine’s Music Hall, Albany. It’s Happy Hour! The Crawley brothers’ band sneak previews selections from their upcoming album, “Primates, Drunks & Cowboys.” With the Rob Skane 3. 6pm.

BURLESQUE: Burlesque Paradiso 1920’s Revue @ Ristorante Paradiso, Albany. Host Miss Roxxi Tart welcomes Noelle Reign, Honey Commings, Marie Re-Moan, BabyDGirl, Shirley Tramp, Lily Allure and more. 10pm. $12.

MUSIC: Planet of the Abts @ the Bearsville Theater, Woodstock. Two members of Gov’t Mule – drummer Matt Abts and bassist Jorgen Carlsson – team up with guitarist-keyboardist-vocalist T-Bone Andersson in their new side project band. With Randy Robbins. 9pm. $20.

MUSIC: Wicked Knee @ Club Helsinki, Hudson. Medeski, Martin & Wood drummer Billy Martin pulls double duty, playing with what he calls “RagTimeFunk” with trumpeter Steven Bernstein, trombonist Curtis Fowlkes and tuba player Marcus Rojas in the headlining slot – joining keyboardist John Medeski in opening act Mago. 9pm. $22.

MUSIC: Peter Serkin @ Williams College’s Brooks-Rogers Recital Hall, Williamstown. The classical pianist performs works of Stefan Wolpe, Arnold Schoenberg and Toru Takemitsu, followed by Beethoven’s Thirty-three Variations on a Waltz by Anton Diabelli, Op. 120. 8pm. FREE.
