MUSIC: Project/Object @ Valentine’s Music Hall, Albany. Guitarist Andre Cholmondeley leads his Frank Zappa tribute band back to town with two Mothers of Invention alum – Ray White and Ike Willis – joining in the fun. Hot rats! 8pm. $15 in advance.

THEATER: “La Cage aux Folles” @ Proctors, Schenectady. George Hamilton and Christopher Sieber star in the flamboyant musical comedy chockfull of fun and feathered boas. 8pm. $20, $35, $45, $50, $60 & $70. Through Sunday.

MUSIC: Shawn Phillips @ the Iron Horse Music Hall, Northampton. The unrepentant hippie folk-rocker co-wrote “Sunshine Superman” with Donovan, recorded several albums with Traffic as his backing band, sang backing vocals on the Beatles’ “Lovely Rita (Meter Maid),” played the Isle of Wight in 1970… With Jann Klose. 7pm. $20.

MUSIC: The Acacia Strain @ Northern Lights, Clifton Park. With Terror, Stray From the Path, Harms Way and Concrete. Get there on time; Concrete will be filming for an upcoming music video. 6pm. $16.

MUSIC: The Erin Harkes Band @ the Ruck, Troy. 9pm.

    Alright, here’s a bit of Nippertown trivia for the J.B. Scott’s set — Shawn Phillips was the first act to play at J.B.’s, and even though it was the first chance for the new club to show itself off, Phillips asked for there to be no bar or table service during the performance.

    One wonders if he’ll do “She Was Waiting For Her Mother At The Station In Torino And You Know I Love You Baby But It’s Getting Too Heavy To Laugh” at the Iron Horse, or if the title is too long to fit in the door.
