Two of Nippertown’s finest folk-oriented duos – John Kirk & Trish Miller along with Sarah Milonovich & Greg Anderson – have joined forces to form Mountain Quickstep, and they’re wasting no time in living up to their motto: “Changing the World One Tune at a Time.”
More than 100 music ensembles from all across the country applied to be part of the “Rhythm Road: American Music Abroad” program, and Mountain Quickstep were among the lucky 10 groups who were selected to participate.
Sponsored by Jazz at Lincoln Center and the U.S. State Department, the program will send Mountain Quickstep to Eastern Europe next month for performances in Kosovo, Bulgaria, Moldova and Turkey.
And you can bet that the foursome will make marvelous musical ambassadors as they fuse together elements of old-timey, bluegrass and early country music of the Appalachian, Adirondack and Smoky Mountain regions. The versatile group not only offers intricate four-part vocal harmonies but also plays twin fiddles, banjos, mandolins and guitars, as well as percussive Appalachian clog dancing.
Hometown fans will get the opportunity to catch Mountain Quickstep in action at 8pm on Thursday (October 13) at the Zankel Music Center of Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, where Kirk and Miller are faculty members of the Skidmore Music Department.
Admission to the special tour kick-off concert on Thursday is free; reservations can be made here.
