ART EXHIBIT/FUNDRAISER: Art Saves Animals @ the Arts Center of the Capital Region, Troy. A swingin’ benefit party. auction and silent auction of artworks by prominent, a-list Nippertown artists to benefit the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society. 5:30-8:30pm. $40.

MUSIC: Sidi Toure & Friends @ the Sanctuary for Independent Media, Troy. The season kicks off with the acclaimed Malian guitarist-vocalist and his band of African musicians, including Sidi Touré (guitar, vocals), Jambala Maiga (kuntigui) and Domu Maiga (kurbu). 7pm. $10. Related story.

FILM/TALK: “La Jette” @ EMPAC at RPI, Troy. The first installment of EMPAC’s “The Eternal Return” film series features enigmatic French director Chris Marker’s 1962 sci-fi classic, a bold meditation on time, chance, fate and memory. With two related short films: Keith Sanborn’s “Operation Double Trouble” and Ben Badeau’s “300 Clouds.” Filmmaker Sanborn will lead a post-screening discussion. 7:30pm. $6.

MUSIC: Darius Rucker @ the Glens Falls Civic Center, Glens Falls. He shifted gears from Hootie to hoedown with surprising ease, and Rucker’s making his hits Nashville style these days. With Rodney Atkins and Frankie Ballard. 7:30pm.

READING/DISCUSSION: “A Celebration of Aimé Césaire” @ the UAlbany Science Library’s Standish Room, Albany. Members of the UAlbany community will read the works of Caribbean poet Césaire to celebrate the first complete and unexpurgated publication in English of his 1948 collection, “Soleil cou coupé [Solar Throat Slashed],” translated and edited by A. James Arnold and Clayton Eshleman. Arnold will also lead a discussion with UAlbany professor Eloise Briére and other faculty members on Césaire’s work. 4:15pm. FREE.

ART RECEPTION: Albany Underground Artists’ Athletic Annex Exhibition @ 17½ Dove Street (behind the University Club between Washington and Elk), Albany. Chip Fasciana curates the work of Jason Cosco, Jenn Grainer, Jamie Rodrigez, Jason Voegele, Patrick Porter, Radical, Mary Elise Bolam, Nick Matulis, Frank Moscowitz, Christina Kincaid, Alejandro Borsini, Jason Blue Hawk Lake Martinez and others.
