Win FREE TIX to See the Midtown Men @ Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, 10/9/11

This might get a bit confusing… Proctors in Schenectady is hosting a three-week run of the national touring company of “Jersey Boys” in February, and tix are going on sale this week. Meanwhile, the Midtown Men – featuring the four stars of the original Broadway production of “Jersey Boys” – are headed into the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall on Sunday evening.

See what I mean?

Post continues below...

“Jersey Boys,” of course, is the 2006 Tony Award-winning Best Musical about Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons. And yes, you can certainly expect to hear the Midtown Men delve into the Four Seasons’ rich catalog of hit songs – from “Big Girls Don’t Cry” to “Working My Way Back to You,” from “Dawn” to “Sherry” – when they kick off the Music Hall’s fall season of concerts on Sunday.

And although the four talented singers in the Midtown Men shared the stage for more than 1,000 performances of “Jersey Boys,” there’s a lot more to them than just being a Four Seasons tribute band. Each member of the Midtown Men is quite talented in his own right. Christian Hoff won a Tony Award for his performance in “Jersey Boys.” Michael Longoria released his own solo album, “Under 1000 Shades of Blue” and played such non-Broadway venues as CB’s Gallery and the Knitting Factory. Daniel Reichard went on to play Candide at the New York City Opera. And J. Robert Spencer earned a Tony nomination for his starring role in “Next to Normal.”

Now instead of actors playing the role of pop stars on Broadway, they’ve actually become pop stars themselves. Nothing on the Midtown Men’s debut album, “Sixties Hits,” pushes the envelope, musically speaking, but it does ease them out of the Four Seasons bag, as they deliver quite credible treatments of vintage pop tunes from the songbags of such hitmakers as the Beatles, Neil Sedaka, the Turtles, Marvin Gaye, the Drifters, the Mamas & the Papas and the Zombies.

So when they step into the Music Hall spotlight on Sunday night, expect to hear plenty of Four Seasons hits – but a lot more than that, too.

The Midtown Men launch the fall 2011 season at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall in Troy at 7pm on Sunday (October 9). Tix are $40, $45 and $49.

BUT WAIT… Have we got a deal for you!?! We’re giving away a pair of FREE TIX to Sunday night’s concert. To enter the contest, just post a comment below. Please leave your email address, too. We won’t publish it, but we’ll use it to contact you if you win. The winners will be selected at random and notified on Friday. Good luck!
