Festival Fever: Tanglewood Jazz Festival, 9/2-4/11

The annual Labor Day weekend Tanglewood Jazz Festival will take place September 2-4 at Tanglewood in Lenox.

Five concerts will take place in Ozawa Hall throughout the weekend, but there’s a whole lot more going on around the Tanglewood grounds during the fest. The schedule of events includes interviews with performers, a master class with veteran drummer Jimmy Cobb, an album discussion and a screening of a performance of Charles Mingus’ “Epitaph.”

And don’t forget the fabulous line-up of emerging artists who will be taking the stage at the Jazz Cafe prior to the Ozawa Hall concerts. They’re free, and you never know what you might discover. A couple of years ago, we were completely bowled over by Texas jazz vocalist Kat Edmonson and her band, who took us completely by surprise. This year’s best bet on the Jazz Cafe stage? The sublime Hudson Valley vocalist Rebecca Martin and her trio on Sunday evening.

Ticket prices vary by event and are listed below. All-day lawn passes are also available on Saturday and Sunday for $34 per day.
