8/16/11: Today’s Tips: Tuesday

THEATER: “West Side Story” @ Proctors, Schenectady. Bernstein and Sondheim. The Sharks and the Jets. Tony and Maria. 8pm. $20, $40, $55 & $65. Through Sunday.

FAIR: The Altamont Fair @ Altamont Fairgrounds, Altamont. The speedy porkers of Robinson’s Racing Pigs, Frisbee dog tricks of Disc-Connected K-9’s, the fried dough, cotton candy, the midway rides and more. It’s Nippertown’s biggest summer fair. Exhibits and vendors open at 11am; the midway opens at 12noon. $15, which includes, parking, admission to all shows and unlimited midway rides. Through Sunday.

DANCE: The Trisha Brown Dance Company @ Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Saratoga Springs. The performance will feature “L’Amour au theater” (Brown’s latest work is accompanied by sections of Rameau’s opera “Hippolyte et Aricie,” and set against a backdrop of Brown’s own artwork); “Glacial Decoy” (a modern masterpiece set against moving projections of Robert Rauschenberg photographs); and “Foray Forêt” (featuring costumes by Rauschenberg and marching band music performed by 16 students from Galway High School). 8pm. $30. MUSIC: Session Americana @ the Lantern, Pittsfield. It’s a triple-header as part of the Word X Word Festival. The fabulous roots-oriented band Session Americana with novelist Matthew Gallaway and Will Evans, vocalist with Barefoot Truth. 9pm.

MUSIC: Hair of the Dog @ Brunswick Family Community Center lawn, Troy. Nippertown favorites playing Irish music, folk-rock and more… 6:30pm. FREE.

MUSIC: The Refrigerators @ NBT Bank lawn, Canajoharie. The Music on Mainstreet concert series continues… 7pm. FREE.

MUSIC: The Three Irish Voices @ Rensselaer Riverfront Park, Rensselaer. Singers Michael Roche, Mike Donegan and Chris Gill join forces with Frank Jaklitsch & Friends. 6pm. FREE.

MUSIC: The Rymanowski Brothers Orchestra @ Cook Park, Colonie. It’s polka time! Rain or shine. 6:30pm. FREE.
