Tom Chapin and his friends Jon Cobert and Michael Mark played an evening of family-friendly, original folk music at the Guilderland Performing Arts Center in Tawasentha Park in Guilderland last Thursday. Chapin, brother of the late Harry Chapin, drew quite a crowd of families with children eager to hear selections from Tom’s latest CD, “Give Peas A Chance,” songs about good food.

Some of the families were pleased to hear requests they had made on Tom’s website dedicated to them, such as “You’re Not The Boss Of My Brain” from Chapin’s Grammy-nominated CD, “Making A Good Noise.”

He also featured songs for grown-ups from “Broadsides,” his new collaboration with John Forster, including “Let The Bad Times Roll.” Along the way, he and the band also covered Steve Goodman’s “City Of New Orleans” and his brother Harry’s classic hit, “Cats In The Cradle.”

Chapin recently hosted the 35th annual benefit for “Why Hunger,” an organization started by his late brother and Bill Ayres to help find solutions to hunger and poverty.
