7/27/11: Today’s Tips: Wednesday

MUSIC: The Philadelphia Orchestra @ Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Saratoga Springs. Maestra Marin Alsop conducts the Opening Night program, including Beethoven’s dramatic “Leonore Overture No. 3.” Also headlining the evening will be violin virtuoso Sarah Chang, who will perform Bruch’s “Violin Concerto No. 1.” 8pm. $20-$72.50.

MUSIC: Stormin’ Norman & Suzy @ the Lion’s Den at the Red Lion, Stockbridge. Boogie woogie ragtime piano pounder Stormin’ Norman meets saucy, sassy, wailin’ blues singer Suzy. 9pm. FREE.

MUSIC: Lisa Loeb @ Universal Preservation Hall, Saratoga Springs. A kids’ show at 4pm ($15); adult show at 8pm ($35). And, yes, these days, the bespectacled Ms. Loeb has her own line of eyewear.

MUSIC: Hellvar @ Henry Hudson Riverfront Park, Hudson. The Hudson.Water.Music. concert series continues with the Icelandic electronica/new wave band celebrating their release of their sophomore album, “Stop That Noise.” With the Newborn Trio. 6pm. FREE.

DANCE: Jacob’s Pillow, Becket. South Korean dance company LDP/Laboratory Dance Project performs “Modern Feeling” and “No Comment” at the Ted Shawn Theater at 8pm. Through Sunday. Meanwhile, at 8:15pm at the Doris Duke Theater, Big Dance Theater presents the U.S. premiere of “Supernatural Wife.” Through Sunday.

MUSIC: Who’s Bad @ @ Hedley District Riverfront, Troy. Michael Jackson tribute band. 5pm. FREE.

MUSIC: The Robert Michaels Trio @ Shepard Park, Lake George. Born in Canada, raised in Italy, and having studied for a time in Cuba, guitarist Robert Michaels brings a decidedly international flair to his Latin Jazz sound. 7:30pm. FREE.

THEATER: “Edith” @ the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center, Great Barrington. The Berkshire Playwrights Lab presents a staged reading of Kelly Masterson’s new play, starring Jayne Atkinson as Edith Wilson, who took over as the first female President of the United States in 1919 when her husband, Woodrow Wilson, suffered a massive stroke. 7:30pm. FREE.

Ruth Pelham @ Central Park, Schenectady. Miss Music Mobile brings music and life lessons to kids everywhere… 10am. FREE.
