If you’re wondering why you haven’t seen Doc Scanlon’s Rhythm Boys or Reggie’s Red Hot Feetwarmers playing around at any of their many regular local haunts recently, well, there’s a good reason for it. And now it looks like we’ll have to wait a bit longer til they swing back into town.
Tireless bandleader-bassist-vocalist Don Dworkin – whose impressive Nippertown music scene resume stretches all the way back to such nearly forgotten combos as the Star Spangled Washboard Band, Spongy Delights and the Fabulous Armadillos – has been holed up in China for the part three months, where he’s leading Reggie’s Red Hot Feetwarmers in their six-nights-a-week, 12-week residency as the house band at the House of Blues & Jazz in Shanghai. Their stint in China is latest to wrap up on Sunday, June 26.
But don’t expect to Don/Doc/Reggie around town any time soon. Instead of flying home, he’s headed directly to Europe, where’ll he’ll be leading Doc Scanlon’s Pan Atlantic Swingsters on a two-and-a-half-week tour of France beginning on Wednesday, June 29. Now that’s some serious jet-lag…
It’s will be Dworkin/Scanlon/Dwightman’s seventh European tour in the past four years, and this time around the Swingsters feature clarinetist Dan Levinson, guitarist “Bad Boy” Billy Collins and French washboardist-vocalist Stephane Seva. The band is playing more than a dozen dates in France from Paris to Bordeaux to Toulouse, including stage slots at the prestigious Monsegur Jazz Festival and the La Baule Jazz Festival.
