5/22/11: Today’s Tips: Sunday

MUSIC/FUNDRAISER: Ramblin’ Jack Elliott @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. It’s Caffe Lena’s 51st anniversary celebration featuring one of the great folk music legends of our time. 7pm. $75 (includes beer, wine, food and desserts).

MUSIC: Jocie Adams @ the Mission Bar + Tapas, Pittsfield. One of the Low Anthem’s four multi-instrumentalist members, Adams and her other band – pianist/vocalist Martha Guenther, trumpeter Michael Irwin and bassist Charlie Rose – offer selections from her solo album, “Bed of Notions.” 8pm. FREE.

MULTIMEDIA PRESENTATION/MUSIC: “The Kabbalah of Bob Dylan” @ Club Helsinki, Hudson. In honor of Bob Dylan’s 70th birthday, Seth Rogovoy offers a multimedia performance based on his book, “Bob Dylan: Prophet, Mystic, Poet.” Musical performances by Rogovoy and the Grove Street Band. 7pm. $5.

FILM/DISCUSSION: “Phil Ochs: There but for Fortune” @ Proctors, Schenectady. The documentary film about the late folk singer-songwriter will be followed by a discussion with his sister Sonny Ochs. 4:30pm. $10.

MUSIC: River of Drone III @ the soundBarn, Valatie. A collaboration between the Albany Sonic Arts Collective and the the soundBarn, the third annual long-form sound performance will center on the extended sounds of drone and will develop throughout the five-hour performance. Featuring Matt Ernst, Tara Fracalossi, Eric Hardiman, Ray Hare, Holland Hopson, Thomas Lail, Patrick Weklar and Matt Weston, accompanied by video projections by Tara Fracalossi. 11am-4pm. FREE.

MUSIC: The Wailers @ the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center, Great Barrington. The late Bob Marley’s band and roots rock reggae pioneers in their own right. With Duane Stephenson. 7pm. $45, $55.

MUSIC: Sully Erna @ The Egg, Albany. The lead singer of Godsmack leads an eight-piece band in support of his solo album, “Avalon.” 8pm. $37.50.

SHOPPING: The Malta Drive-In Market @ the Malta Drive-in, Malta. The grand opening. Shop during the day on Sundays; catch a flick at night. With performances by Betsy & the Byegons at 12:30 & 1:30pm. Open 9am-3pm.

SPORTS: The SPAC 5K Rock & Run @ Saratoga Spa State Park, Saratoga Springs. A 5K road race through the scenic park with plenty of live music all along the course by such local favorites as the Garland Nelson Ensemble, Filming Ohio, Branchwater, Orchard and others. WNYT-TV news anchor Phil Bayly emcees the event, which kicks off with a one-mile kids’ race at 10am ($7 registration). The 5K race begins at 10:30am ($30 registration). With free post-race party featuring entertainment, refreshments and children’s activities.

MUSIC: The Catilena Chamber Choir @ Trinity Church, Lenox. John Rutter’s “Mass for the Children” is the centerpiece for this concert, which also includes a cappella works by Benjamin Britten, Urmas Sisask and Henrik Gorecki. 3pm. $20; children free.

THEATER/MAGIC: The Magic of Bill Blagg @ the Palace Theatre, Albany. Magician Blagg and his team serve up an afternoon of illusion. 3pm. $25; kids $12.50.

MUSIC: Victor Hill @ Clark Art Institute, Williamstown. The acclaimed harpsichordist presents a solo recital of eighteenth-century composers from Germany, France and Spain. 3pm. FREE.
