The annual Capital Pride Parade kicks off in Washington Park in Albany at 12noon on Sunday, June 12, winding through the city streets before returning to the park where the Capital Pride Festival will continue the celebration of Nippertown’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community.
Headlining the free festivial will be dance-pop singer CeCe Peniston, whose smash hit single “Finally” shot into the Top 10 on the Billboard Top Singles chart back in 1991. Sharing the stage will be up-and-comer Shontelle (who will also be performing the previous night at the Waterworks Pub) and local favorites Sirsy and Tania Asili y La Banda Rebelde.
The parade and festival, which wrap up nearly two weeks of celebration of the LGBTQ community, are expected to run from 12noon-5pm.
