MUSIC: Bands ‘n Beans @ Roaring Brook Ranch, Lake George. Hot chili + hot music + a roarin’ good time. A big benefit bash for the Lake George Arts Project, more than 50 restaurants and individuals will compete in a chili cooking contest, and get to do the tasting. Plus live music on two stages featuring Chris Ballini, Rich Ortiz Trio, Jim Gaudet & the Railroad Boys, the Stony Creek Band, Rat Tail Jimmy, Folding Sky and the Electric City Horns. 2-7pm. $20.

PERFORMANCE/FILM: Circus Amok’s Jennifer Miller @ the Sullivan Lounge at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts’ Amsler Campus Center, North Adams. The event will include a short documentary on Circus Amok and a solo performance by Miller – a bearded woman and director of Circus Amok, an alternative queer theater that gives free performances in poor neighborhoods. 7pm. FREE.

MUSIC: The Tokyo String Quartet @ Emma Willard School’s Kiggins Hall, Troy. Performing the music of Mozart, Szymanowsky, Beethoven. 4pm. $25; students $15.

MUSIC: Dead Aces @ Valentine’s Music Hall, Albany. Named Best Local Punk Band in the Metroland Readers’ Poll this week, Troy’s Dead Aces celebrate by headlining a no-holds-barred show with Jukebox Romantics, Cry Havoc, Deviant Loners and the New Red Scare. 7pm.

THEATER ON FILM: “King Lear” @ the Spectrum 8 Theatres, Albany. The National Theatre of London production starring Derek Jacobi in the title role. 12noon. $15; kids $12.

TALK/READING: “The New York State Capitol and the Great Fire of 1911″ @ the Albany Institute of History & Art, Albany. Vicki Weiss and Paul Mercer of the New York State Library’s Manuscripts and Special Collections talk about their new book commemorating the centennial of the New York State Capitol fire, which severely damaged the western portion of the capitol and destroyed virtually the entire collection of the State Library, as well as significant holdings of the New York State Museum. 2pm. FREE.

MUSIC: Deluka @ Jillian’s, Albany. The electro-tinged British rock quartet fronted by Eli Innocenti showcases tunes from their debut album, “You Are the Night.” 7pm. $7 in advance; $10 at the door.

COMEDY: Mike Epps @ the Palace Theatre, Albany. The comedian-actor (“Next Friday,” “The Hangover,” “Lottery Ticket”) jumps from the big screen to the stage for some stand-up. With special guest Bruce Bruce. 7pm. $37, $45.

MUSIC: RUNA @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. The contemporary Celtic quartet featuring vocalist Shannon Lambert-Ryan, Dublin guitarist Fionán de Barra, percussionist Cheryl Prashker and violinist Tomoko Omura celebrates the release of their new album, “Stretched on Your Grave.” 7pm. $15 in advance; $17 at the door.

WORKSHOP: “Color Theory” @ the Sand Lake Center for the Arts, Averill Park. Artist Phil Singer conducts an hour-long workshop in which participants use paint to learn about color theory. 1:30pm. $5.
