MUSIC: The Low Anthem @ MASS MoCA, North Adams. They were magnificent at The Egg opening for Emmylou Harris. Now they’ve got a new album, “Smart Flesh,” and a night all to themselves. SOLD OUT.

MUSIC: Susan Werner @ the Eighth Step at Proctors, Schenectady. Folk, jazz, gospel – the multi-talented Werner has done it all. The Chicago Tribune called her “the most innovative songwriter working today.” 7:30pm. $22.

ROLLER DERBY: The Hellions of Troy @ Rollarama Skating Center, Schenectady. All-gal roller derby action as the hometown Hellions roll all over the Killah Bees of Providence. 7pm. $12; kids 12 and under $3.

FESTIVAL/KIDS: Hannaford Kidz Expo @ the Empire State Plaza, Albany. Music, storytelling, theater and all other kinds of kids’ activities. 10am-5pm. FREE.

MUSIC: Black John Wayne @ Bogie’s, Albany. Ralph Renna wrangles the microphone as BJW rips it up at the CD release party for their new album, “Serenade of the Black and Blues.” With Ironweed, All for Revenge, To Hell and Back and Nephalum. 7:30pm. $10 (plus a free CD for the first 200)

MUSIC: Barkeater @ The Ruck, Troy. The raw, dynamic duo emerges from their winter hibernation with their debut album in hand, “Gung-Ho, Westerlo,” and tonight is the CD release party. With the Realside. 8pm. FREE.

ART RECEPTION: “A Rock & Roll Art Show” @ Cafe Bocca, Poughkeepsie. A unique exhibit of art from photographer Michael Polito, guitarist Earl Slick and clothing designer Michael Houghton. Opening reception at 6pm. Through Sunday, March 30.

CELEBRATION: Parti Gras @ Brown’s Revolution Hall, Troy. Laissez le bons temps rouler! It’s Mardi Gras time, and Rev Hall is opening its doors for a major party featuring live music by reggae band Robanic and funkateers Chunks of Funk; complementary Cajun food; and a costume contest for King and Queen of the Mardi Gras. Proceeds will benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization for breast cancer research. 7pm. $10.

DANCE/MUSIC: “lions will roar, swans will fly, angels will wrestle heaven, rains will break: gukurahundi” @ Williams College’s ’62 Center, Williamstown. A multi-media performance featuring choreography by Zimbabwe’s Nora Chipaumire, large-screen projections and live music by legendary Zimbabwean musicians Thomas Mapfumo and The Blacks Unlimited. 8pm. $10.

MUSIC: The Holmes Brothers @ Club Helsinki Hudson, Hudson. The always soulful Holmes Brothers are where Saturday night blues meets Sunday morning gospel… 9pm. $25.

MUSIC: Loretta Lynn @ the Calvin Theater, Northampton. A true icon of American country music. With the Sweetback Sisters. 8pm. $49.50, $59.50.

MUSIC: Leo Kottke @ The Egg. The acoustic guitar innovator is back to wrap up his two-night Nippertown stand. 8pm. $34.50.

COMEDY: The Brew Ha-Ha Comedy Showcase @ Chipshots Sports Bar & Restaurant, Colonie. Greg Aidala emcees a laugh-filled evening with headlining stand-up comic Pat Dixon. Local comics warming up the crowd with some yuks will be Adrianna Flax, Brian Kiernan and Josh Sperber. 8pm. SOLD OUT.
