“I remember playing 78s on the old wind-up gramophone when I was five or six years old. I used to love that machine, and I still have it.

Those old 78s were the first albums that I ever bought, and I especially remember one by the Flanagan Brothers, who were a group from New York playing music with banjo and fiddle and accordion and all that. They played great polkas and sang a few songs, too.”

Bandleader and uilleann piper Paddy Maloney leads veteran Celtic band the Chieftains as they launch their U.S. tour at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall at 8pm on Thursday. Tix are $48, $51, $58 and $69.
