2/13/11: Today’s Tips: Sunday

MUSIC: Jane Monheit @ The Egg, Albany. Get a jump on Valentine’s Day by taking your sweetie out for an evening of romantic jazz tunes by the sublime vocalist Jane Monheit and her band. Showcasing selections from her latest album of standards, “Home,” Monheit will melt you. 7:30pm. $29.50.

CABARET: The Big V-Day Cabaret @ Barrington Stage Co., Pittsfield. Julianne Boyd directs Brian Justin Crum, Trista Dollison, Morgan Karr and Cassie Wooley in a musical celebration of love, romance, frustration, heartache and revenge. 3pm. $25.

FILM: Youth FX Film screening @ Madison Theater, Albany. The third annual Youth FX Film screening features a batch of films created through Grand Street Community Arts’ Film FX program. 4pm. $7; children 12 and under $5.

THEATER ON FILM: “Fela!” @ Spectrum 8 Theatres, Albany. The Tony Award-winning musical comes direct from the National Theatre of London with Sahr Ngaujah in the title role. 12noon. $15; 12 and under $12.

FILM: Oscar Nominated short Documentaries @ Time + Space Limited, Hudson. Screening of three of the short subject documentaries nominated for the Academy Award. Through Sunday, February 27. 5:30pm. $7; students $5.

MUSIC: Buzzard @ Trick Shot Billiards & Sports Pub, Clifton Park. Saratoga hardcore. With the Blisterz and Racing City Ghosts. 8pm. $5.

TELEVISION: The Grammy Awards @ CBS-TV. Yeah, we know that nobody really cares about the awards, but in a desperate attempt to make the recording industry look vaguely relevant, producers are sure to pile on enough over-the-top extravaganzas to make the Black Eyed Peas’ Super Bowl halftime show look like a Cub Scout campfire sing-along. 8pm.
