2/1/11: Today’s Tips: Tuesday

MUSIC: Neko Case @ the Bearsville Theater, Woodstock. Last year, she was at The Egg as a back-up singer for Jakob Dylan and in Woodstock as a member of the New Pornographers. Now the indie-rock-meets-alt-country darling gets the spotlight for herself. And Do Not Miss opening act Lost in the Trees. 8pm. $40. MUSIC: Hinder @ Northern Lights, Clifton Park. The hard-rockin' Oklahoma quintet rolls into town in support of their latest album, “All American Nightmare.” With Saving Abel, My Darkest Days and Irish rockers Kopek. 7:30pm. $25.

SEMINAR/READING: Douglas Kearney @ the Standish Room at UAlbany's Science Library, Albany. Performance poet Kearney is 2008 National Poetry Series Winner, recipient of the $50,000 Whiting Writers Award and author of “The Black Automaton” (2009). With Tomás Urayoán Noel, poet and assistant professor at UAlbany's English Department. Sponsored by New York State Writers Institute. Seminar at 4:15pm. Reading at 8pm. UPDATE: Both seminar and reading are cancelled due to the weather.

MUSIC: Keith Pray's Big Soul Ensemble @ the Van Dyck, Schenectady. Super sax man Pray leads his big band in an intimate blow-out show at the Electric City's venerable jazz hangout. 8pm. FREE.
