12/31/10: Today’s Tips: Friday

FESTIVAL/MUSIC/MORE: First Night Saratoga @ various locations, Saratoga Springs. No question, it’s the best New Year’s Eve entertainment bargain in Nippertown. Sponsored by Saratoga Arts for the first time, the theme is “Live Creatively,” and that’s something we can all get onboard with, eh? Aged in the Hills, Tern Rounders, Ramblin Jug Stompers, the Fighting ’86s, Michael Jerling, Professor Louie & the Crowmatix, Kevin McKrell’s Train of Fools and lots, lots more. 5:30pm-12:30am. $15 buttons (which gain you entry into all First Night events) are available online as well as at the Saratoga Arts Center, Stewart’s Shops, Adirondack Trust Bank branches, Price Choppers and the Saratoga Springs YMCA.

MUSIC/DANCE: Savion Glover and Daniel Bernard Roumain @ The Egg, Albany. The Egg gets into the New Year’s Eve throwdown mix-up for the first time, putting together a thoroughly intriguing evening’s entertainment. Tap dance titan Glover brings along a troupe of dancers and the mighty funk band Beast Wellington to premiere his new show “ALL FuNKD UP.” Hip-hop violinist Roumain brings along his band, the Mission, to open the show with his electrifying classical-crossover hybrid sound. 8pm. Concert only tix: $34.50, $39.50; VIP tix including concert and post-concert reception featuring champagne, refreshments and dancing $75.

COMEDY: John DiCrosta @ the Palace Theatre, Albany. It’s a four-way stand-up comedy free-for-all with Ross Bennett, Buddy Fitzpatrick and Sherry Davey in addition to DiCrosta. 8pm. $22 in advance; $32 at the door.

MUSIC: Golem @ Club Helsinki Hudson, Hudson. The happening hot-spot of Hudson ushers in 2011 with a special New Year’s Eve bash featuring klezmer-Gypsy-rock band Golem. The music gets underway at 9pm with opening act the Raya Brass Band. Admission is $35.

MUSIC: Summer People @ Valentine’s Music Hall, Albany. Continuous music and hearty partying on two floors with Barons in the Attic, Barrow Burrow, Steer and members of BEWARE! The Other Head of Science. With pizza party and champagne toast at midnight. 8pm. $7; under 21 $8.

MUSIC: Sirsy @ Putnam Den, Saratoga Springs. With DJ Trumastr, party favors and free champagne toast at midnight. Doors at 8pm.
