12/29/10: Today’s Tips: Wednesday

MUSIC: Lauren Ambrose & the Leisure Class @ Club Helsinki Hudson, Hudson. Yes, that Lauren Ambrose, who played art student Claire Fisher on “Six Feet Under.” And, yes, she would be enough to get us there all by herself. But she’s got a crack band featuring members of the Hunger Mountain Boys and the Two Man Gentleman Band, and they dig into some mighty fine New Orleans-roots jazz ‘n’ more. 8pm. $18.

MUSIC: Badfish @ Northern Lights, Clifton Park. The Sublime tribute band is joined by alter-ego Scotty Don’t as well as Mirk and Uncle Joel’s Comb. 7:30pm. $15 in advance; $20 at the door.

MUSIC: Capital Underground Live @ Savannah’s, Albany. Your genial host Ralph Renna kicks off the new year with a rollicking triple bill featuring Sly Fox & the Hustlers, Rob Skane and Cornbred. 8pm. FREE.

MUSIC: The Pangaea Alliance @ Moon & River Cafe, Schenectady. Add on performances by Orange Flavored Orphans and Life Happens, and you’ve got a super ska-flavored triple bill. 8pm. FREE.

MUSIC: 7 Walkers @ Pearl Street, Northampton. Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann and Meters bassmaster George Porter Jr. lead the New Orleans-inspired funkin’ jamstars. 9pm. $15 in advance; $20 at the door.

MUSIC: Carry the Tradition @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. The Queensbury alt-rock quartet snags a spot on Lena’s Emerging Artists concert series. 7pm. $5.
