8/27/10: Today’s Tips: Friday

MUSIC: Ute Lemper @ the Colonial Theatre, Pittsfield. One of the world’s premier interpreters of the music of Brecht & Weill, Lemper brings her acclaimed cabaret show, “Last Tango in Berlin,” to Pittsfield. Also expect to hear the music of Astor Piazzolla, Jacques Brel and others. 8pm. $35, $55.

MUSIC: Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers @ Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Saratoga Springs. Expect the usual array of hits plus a healthy chunk of tunes from the new garage/blues album, “Mojo.” The opening act? Would you believe Crosby, Stills & Nash? 7pm. $41-$131.

MUSIC: David Malachowski & the Woodstock Allstars @ Riverfront Park, Athens. A bonafide supergroup of world-class musicians led by the ever tasty guitarslinger Malachowski. For this outing, the band also features Pete Levin (organ), Gary Burke (drums), Graham Maby (bass), Machan Taylor (vocals), Dennis Gruenling (blues harp), Erik Lawrence (saxophone) and violinist Lorenza Ponce, fresh from her tour with Bon Jovi. 7pm. DANCE: Parsons Dance @ PS21, Chatham. Dancer-artistic director-choreographer David Parsons and his ensemble perform “Remember Me,” a rock dance opera with live music by rock opera band the East Village Opera Company. Also on the program is “Caught,” Parsons’ signature stroboscopic tour de force, featuring a solo dancer defying gravity and flying above the stage. 8pm. General admission tix are $40. MUSIC: Afroman @ Jillian’s, Albany. You remember his 2001 Top 20 hit, “Because I Got High,” don’t you? Perhaps you remember his follow-up attempts, “Let’s All Get Drunk” and “Sell Your Dope.” Get the picture? Yes, we see… With Mobana & the Crunk Masters. Doors open @ 7pm. $10.
