8/18/10: Today’s Tips: Wednesday

FESTIVAL/FOOD/MUSIC: At the Plaza Food Festival @ Empire State Plaza, Albany. “Blood & Roses.” “Only a Memory.” “Behind the Wall of Sleep.” Those are some of the finest slices of new-wave-era dark-pop, and they all come from the Smithereens, who headline tonight’s fest at 7:45pm. Also on tap are Troy’s favorite power trio Super 400 at 6:15pm and folk-punksters O’Death at 5pm. Bring your appetite and graze the vendors. Local rock vets the Chris Busone Band play the lunchtime show from 11:30pm-1:30pm. And it’s all free. (Related stories: Real Good for Free; Song of the Week “Behind the Wall of Sleep”)

MUSIC: The Philadelphia Orchestra @ the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Saratoga Springs. MUSIC: The Stone Revival Band @ Putnam Den, Saratoga Springs. Yup, they’re back for another in their series of free weekly Wednesday night shows, which is a damn good deal – especially considering that the engine that’s powering this rock machine is none other than moe. drummer Vinnie Amico. 10pm. Free.

DANCE: The Goteborg Ballet @ Jacob’s Pillow, Beckett. The Pillow’s Ted Shawn Theatre plays host to the American debut of Sweden’s acclaimed Göteborg Ballet performing “3xBoléro,” which is – according to The New Yorker – “a stylish, triptych of works.” 8pm. (Through Sunday)
