“TAB at the Tab,” a live album recorded by the Trey Anastasio Band (TAB) in concert at the Tabernacle in Atlanta, will be released on Tuesday, September 14 on Anastasio’s own Rubber Jungle Records.
The album was recorded earlier this year on February 27 and features live renditions of fan-favorite TAB songs, as well as numerous new compositions.
The core TAB four-piece lineup of 2009 – guitarist-vocalist Anastasio, drummer Russ Lawton, keyboardist Ray Paczkowski and Saratoga’s own bassmaster Tony Markellis – was bolstered for this tour with a horn section that included longtime TAB members Russell Remington (tenor saxophone, flute) and Jennifer Hartswick (trumpet, vocals), as well as 18-year-old newcomer Natalie Cressman (trombone, vocals), the daughter of former band member Jeff Cressman.
“It’s how I’ve always imagined this band,” says Anastasio. “The goal was for a unified sound in the tradition of Bob Marley or King Sunny Ade, where the different instruments are really dancing with each other. And I think we achieved that.”
The vocals dance, as well as the instruments, too. Markellis steps up to the microphone to join in on vocals on fan favorite “Windora Bug,” a song that’s making its recording debut on the upcoming album. And Hartswick delivers a blistering lead vocal on a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Black Dog” to wrap up the album.
