8/17/10: Today’s Tips: Tuesday

MUSIC: KISS @ Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Saratoga Springs. Isn’t it time for KISS to finally pack it in? Don’t bet on it. Where else would you want to be if you’re in the mood to rock ‘n’ roll all night and party every day? With The Academy Is… and the Envy. 6:30pm. (Related story: Paul Stanley, What Was the First Album You Ever Bought?)

FILM: “Yellow Submarine” @ PS21, Chatham. The Fab Four set out with Captain Fred to rid Pepperland of the music-hating Blue Meanies. Eye-poppingly psychedelic animation, Beatles music and plenty of witty banter. What more could you want? 8pm. Free.

FAIR: The Altamont Fair @ the Altamont Fairgrounds, Altamont. Fried dough season kicks into high gear with the opening day of the Altamont Fair. Music ranges from bluegrassers Fairview Avenue (3pm) to ’80s pop cover band Too Shy (6 & 7:30pm), but we know that you won’t want to miss other entertainment options, either. Like the Dock Diving Dogs, Nerveless Nocks Aerial Stunt & Thrill Show and, of course, Cuzin Grumpy’s Porkchop Revue. 10am. $15. (Through Sunday, August 22)

MUSIC: Horsefeathers @ Valentine’s Music Hall, Albany. Fine indie folkateers from Portland (the one in Oregon, not Maine) ramble into Nippertown in support of their latest album, “Thistled Spring.” Nate Danker opens. 8pm.

Hair of the Dog @ Brunswick Community Center, Troy at 7pm
The Starline Rhythm Boys @ Stony Creek Town Park, Stony Creek at 7pm
Johnny Cassera’s Route 66 @ Onderdonk Park, East Greenbush at 6pm
