8/11/10: Today’s Tips: Wednesday

MUSIC: Slayer and Megadeth @ Glens Falls Civic Center, Glens Falls. They ripped it up on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” last night, and now Slayer is finally teaming up with Megadeth to launch their U.S. tour tonight right here in Nippertown. Testament opens the show. 7pm. $29.50, $39.50, $49.50. Oh, and if that’s not enough headbangin’ for ya, beginning at 5pm there will also be a free Rock the Block party outside the civic center featuring live music by Elevator Death Squad. MUSIC: John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers @ The Egg, Albany. Not only a pioneering blues singer, guitarist and harmonicat, Mayall is one of the all-time great talent scouts with folks like Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, Mick Taylor, Harvey Mandel, Mick Fleetwood, Peter Green and more passing through the ranks of the Bluesbreakers over the years. DANCE: Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo @ Jacob’s Pillow, Beckett. If you like your dance performances laced with a sense of humor, you’ll find no better troupe than this veteran all-male ensemble, who promise to skewer everything from “Swan Lake” to Merce Cunningham in the Ted Shawn Theatre. (Through Sunday) 8pm.

MUSIC: Betty Buckley @ the Colonial Theatre, Pittsfield. Accompanied by pianist Seth Rudetsky, the Broadway legend and Tony Award-winning singer-actress presents her show, “Broadway by Request.” 7:30pm. $25, $45.

MUSIC: The Rob Jonas Band @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. The Troy Americana quartet led by Jonas – and also featuring guitarist JV Abbey, drummer Mark Adamo and bassist Mike Guzzo – makes its Lena’s debut in the Spa City. 7pm. $5. (Related stories: Rob Jonas’ Five Firsts and CD review)

MUSIC:: Ven Voisey @ The Berkshire Fringe, Daniel Arts Center, Great Barrington. :30 Live! is the Berkshire Fringe’s free, bi-weekly music series. Up tonight is songster, visual artist and local curator Ven Voisey plays songs accompanied by his own abstract videos from his Cabinets project. FREE!
