The third annual Ballston Spa Film Festival takes place this weekend, and while the fest still boasts a cozy, smalltown feel, entries being screened at this year’s fest come from not only the Capital Region, but from all around the world.

Here’s a Ballston Spa Film Festival entry from Niskayuna High School student Alexandre Gilmet. “The Drum Set” was recently honored as a 2010 Rod Serling Video Festival award winner for Best Direction:

The fest will be screening more than 40 short films in a variety of styles from documentaries to animation. Among the films are international entries from England, Kyrgyzstan, Canada, Turkey, Indonesia, Australia, Spain, New Guinea and Ireland.

The screenings will place at Ballston Spa High School at 7pm on Friday and Saturday and outdoors in Wiswall Park beginning at 9pm on Friday and Saturday.

In addition, the festival will conduct a workshop in video editing at the Brookside Museum at 1pm Saturday. The workshop will be followed by a panel discussion on independent film making at 3pm.

Vesper – winners of the SPAC Battle of the Bands earlier this year – will rock the after-party at the Brickyard Tavern at 11pm on Friday. Meanwhile, the Broken will play the after-party at 11pm on Saturday at the Brookside Museum.
