Real Good for Free: Performing Arts Showcase @ Skidmore’s Zankel Music Center, 7/22/10

On the eve of opening day at the race track, Skidmore College’s Zankel Music Center is hosting an eclectic performing arts showcase in Saratoga Springs.

As part of the New York State Presenters Network Summer Symposium, the evening-long smorgasbord of performances will include:

Daniel Bernard Roumain, composer/violinist melding classical music and hip-hop
Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company and Bairbre McCarthy, performing excerpts from their collaboration “Celtic Footprints”
Ethel, intense, imaginative and adventurous string quartet
Emilio Solla, Argentinian pianist-composer blends tango and jazz
The Frank Vignola Trio, acoustic guitar-driven jazz, Hot Club style
Fredericks Brown, contemporary blues/soul groovesters featuring Taj Mahal’s daughter, vocalist Deva Mahal, and keyboardist Steph Brown
Helen Sung, innovative jazz pianist-composer
Kieran Kane, superb singer-songwriter who blurs the line between country and folk music
Somi, “New African Soul” featuring the elegant vocals of Somi

Sounds like quite a deliciously diverse evening of entertainment of all stripes. And, yes, it’s free, too!

The Performing Arts Showcase is presented in cooperation with The Egg and the New York State Council on the Arts.
