Tireless singer, songwriter and all-around generous guy Frank Jaklitsch has been raising funds to help hurricane-devastated New Orleans since Katrina first rolled across the Crescent City. So it actually seems quite natural for a guy who is best known for singing Irish songs to be entertaining at the grand opening of a new New Orleans-style restaurant right here in Nippertown.
Cafe NOLA in Schenectady has been serving food for a couple of weeks now, but the restaurant will celebrate its official grand opening on Thursday, and Jaklitsch will be entertaining from 4-6pm while folks are digging into their crawfish etouffee, alligator po’ boy and red beans ‘n’ rice.
“We have eaten there twice,” Jaklitsch says, “and I find the food very good. Chef Kevin seems to be a very nice guy. It’s a small family-run business.
“To quote the Jimmy Buffett song, ‘I will be working for gumbo,’ ” Jaklitsch says with a chuckle.” I sure hope he makes it…a little bit of Nawlins heaven locally.”
