7/12/10: Today’s Tips: Monday

MUSIC: Titus Andronicus @ Valentine’s Music Hall, Albany. The New Jersey ragers and XL recording artists make a touring pit stop in Albany for a night of mayhem and angsty, alcohol-fueled guitar anthems. They’ll be joined by Hallelujah the Hills as an opening act, as well as additional musicians for TA’s massive eight-piece live assault. BEWARE! the Other Head of Science kick it all off. 8pm. $10.

POETRY: “The Define Poetic Show” @ the Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza, Guilderland. Poetry on TV? Yes, it’s the taping for a new television show that’s broadcast on Schenectady Channel 16. It’s hosted by Shaun Mintz, and the guests will be three veteran Nippertown poets: Marcus Anderson, Mojavi and R.M. Engelhardt. 6:45pm. Free.

MUSIC: Born to Lose @ Valentine’s Music Hall, Albany. Anthemic punk meets face-melting metal when Austin’s Born to Lose cranks it up in Nippertown on their way across the Big Pond for a European tour. With Plastic Jesus, Dead Aces. 8pm.

READING: Richard Howard and Danzy Senna @ Davis Auditorium in Palamountain Hall at Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs. Monday, July 12: The New York State Summer Writers Institute series of readings continues with Pulitzer Prize winning poet Howard and fiction writer Senna (“Caucasia”). 8pm. Free.

MUSIC: Attack Attack! @ Northern Lights, Clifton Park. Despite some confusing advertising, the headliners are the Columbus-based quintet Attack Attack! Not the Welsh quartet Attack! Attack! (Note the extra exclamation point.) With Parkway Drive, Pierce the Veil, Confide, In Fear and Faith, Rick Whispers. 7pm. $18.

MUSIC/DINNER: “The Love Story/Poverty Hymns Soundscape and BBQ” @ Troy Bike Rescue, Troy. The Love Story (solo sax and electronics) and Poverty Hymns (solo guitar and electronics) touch down at Troy Bike Rescue for a little potluck BBQ and experimental soundscapes. Potluck dinner at 8pm; music at 9pm.
