The Egg in Albany has announced a big batch of upcoming shows for their 2010-2011 season. Tickets are currently available to members only, but it’s not too late to become a member. Tix go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, July 13.
Here are the upcoming concerts that have been announced so far:
Saturday, September 25, 8pm: Regina Carter. The finest contemporary jazz violinist explores the world of African folk melodies. $29.50.
Sunday, September 26, 3pm: Sol y Canto. The Latin music sextet will be joined by the Sweet Plantain String Quartet to perform the suite “Sabor y Memoria (Flavor & Memory).” $24.
Friday, October 1, 8pm: Luka Bloom. Acclaimed singer, songwriter and Irish troubadour Bloom performs music from his latest album “Dreams in America” and more. $28.
Friday, October 15, 8pm: The SF Jazz Collective. An all-star jazz ensemble featuring saxmen Miguel Zenón and Mark Turner, trumpeter Avishai Cohen, trombonist Robin Eubanks, vibraphonist Stefon Harris, pianist Edward Simon, bassist Matt Penman and drummer Eric Harland. $29.50.
Friday, November 5, 8pm: Zakir Hussain & Niladri Kumar. The world’s greatest tabla player teams up with the brilliant sitarist Kumar for an evening of hypnotic Indian music. $34.
Saturday, November 6, 8pm: Paul Barrere & Fred Tackett: The guitarists from the veteran rock band Little Feat perform acoustic versions of songs from their catalog and more. $29.50.
Sunday, November 14, 3pm: “From Gershwin to Garland: A Musical Journey with Richard Glazier.” The pianist weaves commentary with his performances of such standards as “Embraceable You,” “I Got Rhythm,” “An American in Paris,” “Over the Rainbow” and “Rhapsody in Blue.” $24.
Saturday, December 4, 8pm: “The Roches With a Holiday Twist.” Maggie, Terre and Suzzy bring their swirling harmonies to Nippertown for a fun-filled Christmas show. $29.50.
Saturday, December 11, 8pm and Sunday, December 12, 2pm: “Mountain Snow and Misteltoe” A down-home concert of holiday songs and stories by Christopher Shaw and Bridget Ball, along with fiddler John Kirk, guitarist Kevin McKrell and percussionist Brian Melick. $24.
Saturday, December 18, 2pm: The Zucchini Brothers. Jack (guitar), Steve (keyboards) and Sam (drums) are back for their annual fun-for-the-whole-family holiday kids show. $12.
Friday, January 21, 8pm: The Tierney Sutton Band. With one of the loveliest, most supple voices in jazz, Sutton leads her band through delightfully reinvented standards. $28.
Sunday, January 30, 7:30pm: The Joe Lovano/John Scofield Quartet. Saxman Lovano and guitarist Scofield join forces, showcasing why they’re two of the most respected jazz artists of today. $29.50.
