ArtBeat: Calls For Entry

The Center for Photography at Woodstock and Slideluck Potshow Global are seeking submissions for their inaugural Slideluck Potshow, an evening featuring curated digital multimedia presentations which are preceded by a potluck-style dinner and live dj to be held at the Center for Photography at Woodstock on July 17. Saratoga Arts, through the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) Decentralization Program offers the Saratoga County Program for Arts Funding (SPAF), which awards grants to support arts and cultural programming in all arts disciplines throughout Saratoga County. Since 1994, SPAF has awarded over $518,000 for hundreds of programs in Dance, Fabric Arts, Film, Fine Crafts, Folk/Traditional Arts, History, Literature, Multi-cultural Arts, Music, Native American Arts, Photography, Public Art, Sculpture, Storytelling, Theater and Visual Arts.

Grants are available in two categories:

  • Project Grants: grants ranging from $500 to $5,000 to registered
    Saratoga County non-profit organizations, municipalities and sponsored
    individual artists to support arts and cultural programming in all arts
    disciplines in communities throughout the county. (Application deadline: October 7, 2010)
  • Artist Grants: 3 grants of $2,500 awarded to Saratoga County individual artists for the creation of new work that reflects local community life or culture and engages a community in the creative process (directly or indirectly). Grants focus on the artistâ?Ts work, with the goal of enhancing artistic career development and fostering interaction between artists and communities. (Application deadline: September 16, 2010)

Berkshire Artists: The Berkshire Arts Festival is seeking submissions from artists residing in the Berkshires for the first Insiders Art Fair Gallery show, to be held during the Festival, July 2-4 in Great Barrington. (Deadline: June 10)


Expert Oddities: Show and Tell is seeking presenters on unexplored, highly specific and/or eccentric topics for an evening of short lectures during June’s Troy Night Out on Friday June 25 at 7pm at 51 3rd Street in Troy.

Pittsfield artists are invited to submit work for consideration for the Pittsfield Contemporary Exhibition 2010 to be held at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts from July 23 – August 28. ALL ages. New media, sculpture, video, sound art, installation, craft and other genres all welcomed. More information here. (Deadline: June 8)

Women‘sWork: Arts at The Women’s Building is seeking work by female artists in any medium on the topic of women’s work, whether historical or contemporary. (Deadline: June 9)

Oncology on Canvas is seeking entires for Expression of a Cancer Journey, a bienniel competition and travelling exhibition developed by Lilly (the pharmaceutical giant) as a way to honor those who are impacted by cancer as a patient, caregiver, friend or family member. (Deadline: June 10)

The Arts Center of the Capital Region is accepting works in all media for its annual Fence Show, slated to run from June 25-July 12 (Salon exhibit of all entries) and from July 30 – September 3 (Select show of juried entries). Juror: Ian Berry, director and curator of the Tang Teaching Museum. Membership required. Drop off dates: Sunday, June 13 – Tuesday, June 15.

Saratoga Arts is seeking fine artists for Art in Park to be held in Congress Park, Saratoga, Saturday July 10, 10am-5pm and Tuesday, August 24 (Travers Week) 10am-6pm. Application form here (PDF) (Registration deadline: June 18)

The 11th Annual Woodstock Film Festival is now accepting entries for its 2010 season, taking place September 29 – October 3, 2010. (Deadlines: (early) May 21 and (final) June 21.)

frieze, a British magazine of contemporary art and culture, is inviting entries for the Frieze Writer’s Prize 2010, which aims to promote and encourage new arts writers from around the world. Writers are invited to submit an unpublished 700-word review of a recent contemporary art exhibition. The winner receives an award of £2000 and a commission to write a review for the October issue. (Deadline: June 25)

Proctors Theatre is seeking entries for the Northeast Fine Craft Festival to be held October 23-24, 2010. Last year’s festival brought an attendance of more than 1,000 participants — with 40 artisan booths featured throughout the facility. Craftspeople and artisans who create original work from their own designs in metal, fiber, clay, glass, paper, wood, and leather are invited to apply online or send an email request to (Application deadline: June 30, 2010)

The onedotzero_adventures_in_motion Festival that recently touched down at EMPAC is seeking entries for next year’s event, new work that demonstrates innovative creative expression and visionary moving image ideas in the categories of animation + short form, feature films, live audio-visual performances and installations. Hudson’s Limner Gallery is seeking entries for “Strange Figurations,” a thematic exhibition open to all media and figurative styles from the realist to the surreal and visionary. 72″ maximum dimension. The exhibition will be held at the Limner Gallery, September 1 – 25, 2010. $2200 in national magazine publication awards. On-line entry form. (Deadline June 30)

Hot street art action: Papergirl-New York State is seeking artists to participate in this year’s PaperGirl, an art event that will combine the forces of New York City and Albany. Works will be shown from August 23-27 @ the Dumbo Art Center, Brooklyn, from August 28-29 @ the Armory in Manhattan and from September 3-6 @ the Marketplace Gallery in Albany. After the gallery exhibitions, the art will be distributed to strangers on the street in a style that imitates paperboys. (Submission deadline: July 20)

Saratoga Arts is accepting entries for Saratoga: Inside-Out, an exhibition that encourages artists to turn their views of Saratoga County “inside-out” by reinterpreting, subverting or envisioning anew the icons, ideas, events of landscapes. The show will run from August 7 through September 25. Drop off work (actual works, not slides or files) on Monday, July 25, 9am-5pm.

Limner gallery is accepting entries for “A Show Of Heads,” a thematic group exhibition to be held in November, 2010 open to interpretations and portrays of the human head. $2200 in publication awards. (Deadline August 31)

UAlbany’s University Art Museum is seeking works in all media by alumni of all graduate and undergraduate programs for an exhibition this fall. (Deadline: October 1).
