Simone Felice Undergoes Emergency Surgery at Albany Medical Center

Simone Felice – former drummer with the Felice Brothers and current singer-guitarist with the Duke & the King – has been rushed to Albany Medical Center for emergency surgery today.

“We must tell you all, with a heaviness we cannot convey of the news that our dearest brother Simone Felice has been scheduled for emergency open-heart surgery as a result of Aortic Stenosis,” reads a note from his bandmates posted on the Duke & the King’s Facebook page on Wednesday. “We are devastated, yet hopeful that he will pull through.”

Felice and the Duke & the King performed at MASS MoCA on Saturday evening, sharing the stage with the Carolina Chocolate Drops. The band was also scheduled to play at Mountain Jam in Hunter this weekend, but that performance – and all additional D&K shows for June and July – have been cancelled.

The Felice Brothers – featuring Ian and James Felice – are also slated to perform as the opening act for the Dave Matthews Band at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs on Friday and Saturday. Simone left the Felice Brothers shortly after recording the band’s 2009 album, “Yonder Is the Clock.”
