Real Good for Free: Skidmore Jazz Institute Concert Series

In conjunction with the annual Skidmore Jazz Institute, Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs hosts a series of free concerts by some of the top names in jazz each June and July.

This year’s line-up looks mighty stellar. All performances take place on campus at Ladd Hall in the Zankel Music Center, except where noted:

Skidmore Faculty Sextet
8pm Thursday, July 1
Featuring Bill Cunliffe, Todd Coolman, Dennis Mackrel, Pat LaBarbera, Bobby Shew and Curtis Fuller

An Evening of Poetry and Jazz
8pm Friday, July 2 at Palamountain Hall’s Gannett Auditorium
Featuring former U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky with bassist Todd Coolman and tenor saxophonist Pat LaBarbera

Luis Bonilla Quintet
8pm Saturday, July 3
The Latin trombonist leads his quintet featuring Bruce Barth, Robin Sabin, John Riley and Ivan Renta

Bill Charlap and Renee Rosnes
8pm Tuesday, July 6
The husband and wife team up for a performance of piano duets from their upcoming debut collaborative album, “Double Portrait.”
